Peter Cliff

My winter programme is off-piste skiing, ski safaris and ski touring. The off piste is in January and February, hotel based, mainly in Switerland, with competence levels ranging from novice upwards. The ski safaris are 6-day journeys from one place to another, using lifts and buses, skiing pistes and off-piste, and staying in hotels. The ski touring usually starts in March and I run various hut based ski tours.

I have written Mountain Navigation ( this has become the standard textbok on the subject and has sold nearly 100,000 copies), Ski Mountaineering (now out of print, but you might pick up a copy from Amazon), The Haute Route (a guide to this classic tour from Chamonix to Zermatt) and Alpinism (a succinct textbook).

I am a former President of the British Mountain Guides and am the current Chair of its Professional Standards Committee.

Expert Witness: areas of expertise are mountaineering and skiing; Law Society Directory of Expert Witnesses; training includes The Civil Expert Now (Bond Solon), Expert Evidence in Civil Disputes (EWI) and Courtroom Skills (Bond Solon).
