Ross Hewitt
Ross Hewitt grew up in the North East of Scotland and started skiing at 7 years old. No mean feat in Scotland back then but he persevered and skiing remains Ross’s first love today. The sensation of going fast had a strong pull and both cross country and downhill mountain bike racing followed in his teens. It seems that what comes down, must initially get up there up so it was inevitable that all that time in the hills and mountains led Ross to start climbing.
With nearly 30 years skiing and 13 years ski touring experience that includes descents of several Chamonix steeps such as the North Face of Tour Ronde, Les Courtes, the North Face of Col du Plan on the Midi and dreamy Alaskan powder, Ross knows where the best snow and terrain is, whether its for touring, off-piste, backcountry, freeride, or the steep and deep, its always a memorable experience.
And when it comes to climbing, Ross is an accomplished Alpinist. His adventures have taken him to British trad E5, French 7b+, Alpine North Faces and Scottish Winter First Ascents up to VII,8. One of the highlights in Scottish winter for Ross was doing the first ascent in 25 years of ‘Mousetrap’ on local crag Creag and Dubh Loch.
You can also expect a highly professional and reassuringly well-organised approach from Ross. For over 10 years he was a Chartered Professional Engineer working as a Project Technical Manager delivering large scale Oil and Gas development projects in UK, Paris, Norway, Egypt, Angola, Equatorial Guinea, Cabinda and Trinidad. These presented several challenges that required an innovative approach and Ross has both patents and world firsts to his name.
Ross Hewitt’s experience in climbing and skiing extends to the Alps, Norway, Alaska and New Zealand. Currently he spends the winters in the Alps and the summer in Scotland.
Ross is currently a Trainee Guide with the BMG.
