Tim Jepson

Relaxing after a fantastic day's ski-touring in the Pyrennes

Tim is a Senior Lecturer in Education at Bangor University. He has run the university's PGCE (Teacher Training) course in Outdoor Activities for nearly 25 years and also works with undergraduates following the Sports Sciences (Outdoor activities) courses. Tim denies the accusation that he is an 'academic' because the image of a researcher at a desk, or of a lecturer on a podium, is too far removed from the practical days on the hill, rock or water where he feels his most important work is done.

Since becoming a Guide in 1981, Tim is proud to have served the British Mountain Guides Association asTraining Officer and as Chair of the Professional Standards Committee.

Although fully employed by Bangor University and not therefore actively seeking guiding work either at home or abroad, Tim is happy to be approached by anyone who seeks information or advice about any matter concerning education in the outdoors.

Still enthusiastic about all forms of climbing, ski-mountaineering and kayaking, Tim spends most of his non-working time outside and active with family and ex-clients/students who have now become firm friends. He is patiently awaiting the day when his daughters want to lead harder climbs and carry heavier rucksacs than he is now able to!
