Martin Moran ice climbing on Beinn Bhan

Martin Moran has been a Guide for 23 years and runs a climbing school from his home base in Lochcarron, North-West Scotland, which offers a range of Scottish winter mountaineering, snow and ice climbing, Skye scrambling and rock climbing. He works from Evolene in the Arolla valley of Switzerland in summer, using his long experience of Alpine mountaineering to offer courses and guiding that cover every level of ambition from Alpine beginner to ascents on the most difficult 4000 metre peaks. Martin did the first continuous traverse of all the Alpine 4000m peaks with Simon Jenkins in 52 days in 1993.

His company has run over 25 trekking and climbing trips to the Indian Himalaya, achieving many first ascents with clients such as the West Ridge of 6596m Nilkanth in 2000. These trips are adventurous in flavour, penetrating valleys and peaks visited by few if any Western parties. He is also one of the few British Guides to run trips to Norway - pure ice climbing in Laerdal in winter and mountaineering trips to Lyngen and Lofoten in the far north in spring.

Martin is author of four mountaineering books including "The Munros in Winter", "Alps 4000", and the Alpine Club's guide "Selected climbs on the 4000m peaks" (2007). He also enjoys sharing his mountain adventures with lecture audiences throughout the UK.
