Alun Richardson

Based between Ireland, Pembrokeshire and anywhere in the world Alun is the Training Officer for Mountaineering Ireland, a full IFMGA Mountain Guide, MIA and BCU sea kayak coach. He works closely with Jagged Globe on their Expedition programme and alpine programme. He started climbing aged 20 has spent more than 25 years rock climbing, big walling, mountaineering, ice climbing, ski touring, trekking, guiding and instructing in the UK, Europe, USA, Alaska, The Pamirs, Tien Shan, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, China, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Greenland and the Himalaya. He has put up over fifty new rock climbs in Pembrokeshire, made the first British ascent of Pik Korshenyevskya and Paralungbi East and has opened new routes in the Szechuan mountain range of China and in South East Greenland. In 2008 he led an expedition to kayak and climb in the Schweitzerland Alps of South East Greenland.

He has been an MLTUK approved trainer and assessor of the SPA, MLA (summer) and the WGL awards for more than 15 years.

In addition to his climbing exploits he is a writer and professional standard photographer with his images being published in On the Edge, Mountain, Climbing, Climber and Rambler and many other magazines and books. He has also written the following books:

In addition to his many outdoor qualifications he is a qualified teacher of Outdoor education.

He is a safety and technical advisor to:

  • Twr y Felin Outdoor Centre
  • Sealyham Mansion Outdoor Activity Centre
  • Pendine Outdoor Centre.

His work has involved writing risk assessments and safety policies for local authorities and outdoor Centres, training and assessing outdoor instructors.

Alun is also registered with the Police expert witness data base.
