Chris Walker Memorial Trust - Expedition Grants
On 24th February, 2010 Chris Walker lost his life when he was taken by an avalanche whilst descending from Buachaille Etive Mor. Chris was a highly talented, accomplished and popular mountaineer who loved to share his enthusiasm, knowledge and skills with others. He already held the MIC, was a full member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors and no doubt would have fulfilled his life-long dream of becoming a British Mountain Guide. In order to assist other climbers who share the same passion for the mountains as Chris, the Chris Walker Memorial Trust has been set up.

BMG Alpine Test
Last week was the alpine assesment for the British Mountain guides. The course examines all aspects of the work of a Mountain Guide and is combined with a two year aspirancy period where aspirant guides have to work alongside a fully qualified guide completing a logbook to document their experience.
The course met in St Gervais on the evening of Saturday 3rd September to discuss the plan for the week with a mixed forecast for the first few days it was decided to use the Aiguille du Midi lift on Sunday morning to gain some height.
British Guide Guides Matterhorn North Face, In August
On the 12th August British Guide Matt Helliker guided Steve Potter on the Matterhorn North Face by the Schmid Route, ED1. This may well be the 1st British guided ascent.

Over the past few years the BMG has made real progress forward.
