Alexander on top of Mont Blanc

Seventeen year old climbs Mont Blanc with British Guide

Alexander Brunton-Reed has just achieved his goal to climb Mont Blanc - with the help of British Guide Owain Jones.

It is easy for minors to access an introduction to outdoor sports - but can be harder to find professionals to help under 18's fulfil their adventurous potential.

Alexander desperately wanted to climb Mont Blanc but was turned down by many adventure providers due to only being 17 years of age. The guidelines of the Adventurous Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) are for the UK only and fully qualified IFMGA guides are able to take people under the age of 18 mountaineering in the Alps with parental consent.

Determined to succeed in his plans, Alexander used the Hire a Guide facility on this website. After consultation with mum and dad, Alexander joined BMG guide Kevin O'Neale's company Mountainvision. After a fantastic acclimatisation and training programme climbing the Lagginhorn and Allalinhorn,Alex acheived his goal climbing Mt Blanc with guide Owain Jones.

He climbed the mountain in a super fast time of under 5 hours from the Tete Rousse hut. A testament to youthful enthusiasm and the determination to achieve a goal.

Congratulations Alexander!
