BMG AGM and Annual Dinner

On the 12th December, members of the British Mountain Guides association met for their AGM and annual Dinner.

This annual highpoint in the Guiding calendar moves around the regions of the British Guides each year. Following last years AGM in Chamonix (The ‘Alpine area’ of the BMG) this year it was the turn of the North Wales Guides to host the event, which was held at Plas y Brenin National Mountain Centre.

Like most AGM events, the formalities of the meeting were soon dispatched, before an interesting discussion forum. This led the way to the Annual dinner with Phil Cousins (head chef at PyB) and his team producing a great meal from locally sourced produce.

Guests to the dinner included:

Simon Hall (Officer in charge of the Joint Services Mountain Training Centre, ‘indefatigable’). Not only have the Joint Services taken a Guide as their Chief Instructor (Chris Forrest – see news item) but several of the Joint service instructors are currently progressing through the BMG training and assessment scheme on their way to gaining their Guide’s carnet.

Tony Halliwell, Issie Inglis and Pete Stacey attended the dinner as representatives of the AMI, BAIML, and MLT respectively. Whilst British Mountain Guides might be the highest level of qualification, many Guides are involved in the training and assessment programs for the other UK schemes and the BMG are keen to promote and foster successful partnerships with all the UK awards.

It's been another great year for the BMG!
