BMG Cascade training day

British Guides share the latest techniques on Alpine Ice-falls

British Guides Terry Ralphs, Graeme Ettle, Roger Payne and Steve Hartland recently ran a superb day on Cascade Guiding for this year's trainees.

Held at La Gouille in Arolla, Switzerland, the day (which is part of the BMG training and assessment scheme) covers issues specific to cascade climbing and guiding. Whilst the winter component of the scheme in Scotland is still as high quality as ever, there are more people climbing (and therefore Guiding) on the frozen falls and cascades of the Alps and throughout the world.

BMG training courses are of such high quality that they are frequently attended by fully qualified Guides, as a way of sharing best practice and remaining current - at the top of our profession. This day was no exception as Phil Poole attended the day as part of his 'continuing professional development'. The trainees in attendance were Andy Nelson, Andy Townsend, Paul Chiddle, Rocio Siemens, Ross Hewitt, Euan Whittaker and Andy Houseman.

All agreed that it was a useful day, sharing ideas and best practice. We'll be seeing more of those trainees on these pages as they make progress through the scheme.
