British Guides get a Masterclass
Neil Gresham
Neil Gresham delivers input on top quality coaching to British Mountain Guides
Whilst the process of gaining an IFMGA carnet puts Guides at the top of their game, it is important to stay current – just like any professional association.
With so many guides specialising in such a variety of disciplines, most Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is delivered by colleagues exchanging experience across the disciplines. But there is always plenty to learn from experts in their own specialisms, and sharing ideas with the best in the business. So the CPD event after the annual dinner this year focused on coaching and teaching rock climbing.
The British Guides attending the day were a diverse group – from the educational expertise of Tim Jepson (who runs the outdoor education PGCE at Bangor university); Al Hinkes (who proved that despite climbing all 14 8000m peaks, he is no slouch on the climbing wall); Pat Littlejohn (BMC vice president and the boss of ISM) to name but a few of the 15 attendees.
Neil received fantastic feedback and reviews from the attendees, who were impressed with his delivery and approach in what is clearly his 'specialist subject'.
Pat then went on to host the second day of the CPD – looking at the issues of supervising clients ‘lead climbing’.
