British Guides on 'Baffin Big Walls'
Are they too early?
Three British Mountain Guides are on their way to climb a great new route on Baffin Island
“You are a great team with a very worthwhile, challenging objective. The very best of luck.”
Sir Chris Bonington CBE
During May 2010, Wales-based Big Wall climbers and British Mountain Guides Mike ‘Twid’ Turner, Stuart McAleese and Mark Thomas will head to the remote Arctic island of Baffin. Their objective: an unclimbed, mile-high vertical wall. The new climb will take around eighteen days to ascend. The climbers will be living and sleeping on the wall on portaledges, climbing ‘capsule style”.
The climbers will need to cope with constant freezing conditions, 6ft x 4ft hanging tents, frozen everything and roaming polar bears.
Follow the team climbing, living and hanging out, suspended thousands of feet above the Arctic wastelands by visiting their website at baffinbigwalls.com.
