British Mountain Guide climbs 'killer' peak
Sandy Allan on the Summit of Nanga Parbat
BMG member Sandy Allan reached the summit of Nanga Parbat on Saturday
At 3pm on Saturday 11th July, Sandy Allan reached the summit of Nanga Parbat in Northern Pakistan. Reaching the summit with Sandy was Rick Allen, 54yrs old, and a fellow Scot.
Nanga Parbat (26,660ft/8125m) is known as the 'Killer Mountain', because of the number of climbers who have perished on its slopes. This significant peak also boasts the Rupal Face, the highest mountain face in the world, towering some 15,000ft above its base.
Sandy is originally from Scotland, and it is believed that the pair could be the first Scottish climbers to climb the mountain.
Two days after the climbers reached the summit, Nanga Parbat lived up to its fearsome reputation by claiming the lives of two more climbers.
You can read more about their expedition on Sandy's blog, and a nice piece by Jonny Muir in the Press and Journal.
