British Mountain Guide skis 8000m Peak

MANASLU (8156m) Ski descent by BMG member Guy Willett

On 28th September Dream Guides’ Guy Willett skied Manaslu (8156m) – the world’s 8th highest mountain.

 

This is the second ever ski descent of Manaslu and could be the first ‘complete’ ski descent. The last ski descent was in 1981, which goes to show how infrequently successful ski descents are made of 8000m peaks.

 

Skiing at 8000m presents many problems, not least of which are trying to breath (even with oxygen), baggy ski boots and dealing with some of the worst snow conditions imaginable!’ Guy commented.

 

Guy was back in base camp the same day, having a cup of tea whilst watching other descending summiteers settling down for a night camping at 6800m…
