Great Snow this year in the Alps

Matt Heliker enjoying some great snow this season!

British Mountain Guides report awesome snow from the Alps, with Guides taking full advantage of powder in France, Austria, Italy and Switzerland.

The early snowfalls around Christmas put snow right down to valley level and continuously cold temperatures since then have preserved the snowpack. Regular top-ups have arrived keeping the snow at mid altitudes in great condition. The Vallée Blanche in Chamonix is still skiable right down to valley level from the top of the Aiguille du Midi.

"The glaciers are very well filled in despite the odd episode of high winds at altitude, so we're well set up for a productive touring season when the huts open in mid March" reports Andy Perkins from Chamonix. "Runs like the Cosmique Couloir, the Vraie Vallée Blanche, the Rectiligne variant of the Pas de Chevre are all in good nick and are well tracked. A little effort on touring kit will get you to some great untracked snow too. But we're keeping that knowledge to ourselves!"
