British Mountain Guides in the thick of it at Kendal
Kendal Mountain Festival kicks off on the 15th November. It’s a feast of mountain action mixed with intense entertainment (aka beer) mixed with inspiration and advice. Naturally, British Mountain Guides are there.
On stage, we have:
- Kenton Cool: 10 times up Everest , this time carrying the extra weight of an Olympic gold medal.
- Jim Blyth: sharing his vast experience of ski mountaineering around the world
- Andy Cave: Inspirational author and alpinist, getting us fired up to do more spicy stuff in the Alps.
Coordinating all this with his team of presenters is the face of the Fest, Andy Perkins, this year assisted by locally based BMG member Adrian Nelhams. Brian Hall is a pivotal member of the Adventure Film Academy, coaching all levels of film makers from total novices to the highly experienced.
And talking of coaching, this year sees a new initiative from the BMG, where 3 BMG guides offer free coaching sessions at the Kendal Wall in alpine technique. Twid Turner, Andy Nelson and Owain Jones will give training on crevasses rescue, prussiking and roping up for glaciers and ridges.
Twid also heads up a presentation at the Box on Sunday where the activities of British Mountain Guides will be showcased, from British rock climbing right the way through to Himalayan expeditions.
Finally, the BMG will have a stand in the marquee so if you want to meet British guides and get info from the experts, then now’s your chance.
See you all at the Festival!
