The British Mountain Guides’ ski training in Leysin, 5-7 Jan 2009

The annual British Mountain Guides' ski training course enjoyed excellent conditions for 3 intensive days of ski technique training.

Each year the course is directed by Alex Languetin, who is a member of the Swiss Demonstration Team and one of Switzerland's most respected expert snow sports instructors. This year, Alex was supported by Oliver Scherrer, the Technical Director of the Leysin Ski School, and Jean Pavillard, a highly experienced Swiss and American Guide trainer and assessor and former Director of the Ski School in Crested Butte.

The main aim of the course is, through a series of piste-based exercises and off-piste practice, to improve ski technique for Trainee and Aspirant Guides in preparation for their ski assessment. In addition, the course provides a professional development opportunity for qualified Guides and their partners. This year there were 3 groups, and the eighteen participants included two Trainee Guides (Toby Keep and Pete Rowlands) and three newly registered Trainees (Dave Evans, James Thacker and Robin Thomas). The course was organised by Steve Jones in Leysin, and was generously supported by the Fred Harper Memorial Fund, which was represented by Peter Cliff who is one of the Trustees.
