Superlative winter conditions in Snowdonia

Tim Neil on the 'Devil's Appendage'

Snowdonia is enjoying the best winter climbing conditions in years - with British Mountain Guides at the heart of the action

With conditions better than they have been in years - there has been so much new-routing and rare repeats that it is hard to keep up with the action.

As always, British Mountain Guides have been at the heart of the 'winter fever' both at work and play. With such good conditions for several weeks now, and conditions set to remain for another fortnight, many Guides have been enjoying the winter with their clients (albeit 'closer to home' for some of them than normal).

Tim Neil (enthusiastic as ever) has been leading the charge with a major new route on the Black Ladders (Poppies - VI,6), and teamed up with fellow Guide Chris Forrest to claim the third ascent of this years big new line in the Devil's kitchen. The Devils Appendage packs a punch (at VI, 6) into it's main pitch, and people are now virtually queuing up to climb it.

British Mountain Guides Libby Peter (of Llanberis Guides); Tim Jepson; Stu MacAleese; and Steve Long have all been getting their fair share of the action - with many rare ascents and significant repeats across the national park.
