Off Piste Skiing

Skiing fresh powder is one of the greatest pleasures the mountains can provide. Leaving the crowded pistes behind, we enter into a world of awesome scenery and the challenge of varied snow conditions. This world comes with some risks which in controlled piste conditions are managed by the ski area. Off piste, we need to address those risks ourselves.

A Guide can manage those risks for you – avalanches and crevasses for instance - either guiding you through them or teach you to manage the risk yourself. In addition a Guide can coach you in off piste ski technique, enabling you to enjoy the experience even more.

But the main task of the Guide is to find you the best snow. Many British Mountain Guides are based all winter in the alpine areas – we have Guides resident all year in France, Switzerland and Austria – so many of the world’s major resorts are in our back yard. British Mountain Guides also travel throughout the Alps during the winter and we exchange information between ourselves on a frequent basis to find the best conditions for you.

So whether it’s off piste tuition, avalanche awareness training, classic off piste runs like the Vallée Blanche or heli-skiing from an alpine peak, choose a British Mountain Guide for your next off piste adventure.
