Mike 'Twid' Turner International Mountain Guide and MIC. Twid's from a mountaineering family has climbed all his life.He fully qualified in 1995 as an IFMGA guide and MIC in 1989. Twid runs his own Guiding company 'Climb and Ski' taking clients climbing and skiing worldwide.
In the past Twid had worked at Plas Y Brenin as a senior instructor, for 15yrs, as head of rock climbing and involved at all levels of MLTUK run courses.Twid has been a member of the BMG training Committee for the last 6 yrs.
Twid runs a wide range of courses and bespoke Guided and Instructional trips. Rock climbing, Alpine Climbing, Ski Mountaineering, Ice Climbing, Big Walling and Expeditions.Twid's expeditions are small low impact trips. e.g. Peru, Himalaya, Mali, Greenland, Morocco, Patagonia and China.
Twid is married to Louise ,also a fully qualified Guide and has a daughter Elin. Twid lives between Llanberis (North Wales), Chamonix and his rucksack!
Twid enjoys pushing himself in all aspects of his game. He has made notable early repeats of some of the Alps hardest routes e.g. Divine Providence 1989, Fisch 1992, Vol du Nuit 2007. Twid has made over 100 new rock routes in the UK most E6-E8. He has rock climbed over 70+ E7 and climbed 8a French. Twid spends half his year on ice and regularily guides grade 6 ice routes in the Alps and has climbed grade VIII in Scotland in winter. Twid takes his approach to the mountains were he has made made technically difficult ascents in remote areas ice climbing, free rock climbing , alpine climbing and Big walling(A4+).
Twid enjoys exploring and making first ascents in wild and remote areas of the world. He has made over 30 technical climbing expeditions to remote areas including: Patagonia, Venezula, Peru, Alaska, Greenland, Baffin, Mexico, Canada, Pakistan, Borneo, Mali, Madagascar, Morroco.He has be nominated for the Piolet D'Or in 2003. Twid has been involved in film making and film safety. Films 'Beating the Avalanche'(a month on a big wall in Pakistan) ,'Borneo's Lowes Gully'(first British live Big Wall climb streamed to the net) and Baffin expedition.
He has served the BMC on many committees and is currently involved with the Expedition committee.
