British Guide to ski 8000m peak

Kenton Cool is on his way to ski Manaslu, the world's 8th highest mountain

British Mountain Guide Kenton Cool has set off on his latest expedition – to ski down the world’s 8th highest mountain, Mount Manaslu (8,163m) in Nepal. If he achieves this, he’ll make the record books as the only Briton to have skied two 8,000 metre peaks.

Kenton first came to fame for his Piolet d’Or award for a first ascent on Annapurna III in Nepal in 2003. In 2007, he guided Sir Ranulph Fiennes, up the North face of the Eiger in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Having been to the summit of Everest a staggering eight times, Kenton has plenty of experience at high altitude. Four years ago, he made a ski descent of another 8,000 metre peak – Cho Oyu in Tibet, the 6th highest mountain on the planet.

Recently interviewed by metrosnow, when asked how we had prepared for this exciting new endeavour, Kenton replied:

"Working in the Alps all summer has given me a really good base level of fitness and of course my record of climbing on the highest peaks in the world (eight Everest summits!) means I'm mentally well prepared for the mountain. What I haven't done is clip into skis since March so I'll definitely be looking to bust a few turns on the lower part of the mountain before we summit."

We wish Kenton and his team a fantastic (and succesful) expedition, and will be keeping up to date with his progress.
