British Mountain Guide Graham McMahon recently delivered a free avalanche day in conjunction with Arc’teryx, Facewest and Ortovox. Based in the Peak District with an excellent turn out from around the UK. Graham describes the weekend below…
“Edale YHA and Outdoor Centre was made available for the weekend giving a perfect location on the flanks of Kinder Scout. The weather was appalling but the sun came out for the practical outdoor sessions, and we even had snow falling as we finished to make the scenarios even more realistic. The format was a mix of power point presentations with video, followed by hands on use of transceivers and other equipment, outdoors.
There was a good mix of winter mountaineers, backcountry skiers and boarders as well as ski mountaineers, so the discussions took in points of views from all sides. Noble Custom the importers of Ortovox safety equipment and clothing briefed us on the modern range of devices available, as well as supplying everyone with transceivers, shovels and probes for the day. We would like to thank them for their generous support along with Facewest and Arc’teryx“
