About Jon

I have been qualified as a guide since 2003 and lived in Chamonix for many years around this time. More recently I have been Sheffield and Peak District based, but with many Alpine trips every year. I also qualified as a Medical Doctor in 1990 and for many years juggled working as an anaesthetist in Sheffield with guiding, mainly in the Alps. I stopped working as an anaesthetist in July 2022, to allow more time with family, friends and to do more guiding. Most of my guiding work has been backcountry skiing, ski touring and ski mountaineering, but I also enjoy summer guiding in the Alps and the UK. I have competed for GB in five World Championships in ski mountaineering racing and was British ski mountaineering champion in 2013. In 2014 I was on the podium with Ben Tibbetts and Ben Bardsley in the Patrouille des Glaciers, winning our age category, the world's biggest and most famous ski mountaineering race. I do plenty of fell running, rock climbing locally and abroad. I currently onsight the occasional E5 and 7b, and redpointed 7c in the Peak in 2022. I am doing a complete traverse of the Alps on ski and on foot with three friends, a week each year having started at the Med, aiming to finish in Vienna in a few years. We are stubbornly refusing to accept any forms of uplift/mechanised transport. We have got as far as the Gross Glockner, which feels a long way from the palm trees of the Med, where we started. Get in touch if you interested in ski adventures!
