I have been qualified as a guide since 2003 and lived in Chamonix for many years around this time. More recently I have been Sheffield and Peak District based, but with many Alpine trips every year. I am the only practising doctor in the UK with a Mountain Guide Diploma. I work part time as an anaesthetist in Sheffield. Most of my guiding work has been off piste skiing, ski touring and ski mountaineering, but I also enjoy summer guiding in the Alps and the UK. I have competed for GB in five World Championships in ski mountaineering racing and was British ski mountaineering champion in 2013. In 2014 with two friends I was on the podium in the Patrouille des Glaciers, the worlds biggest and most famous ski mountaineering race. More frequently now I compete in lots of fell and trail races and do plenty of rock climbing locally. I am doing a traverse of the Alps on ski and on foot with three friends, a week each year, starting in 2016, aiming to finish in Vienna in a few years. We are using superlight Trab ski mountaineering racing equipment and are stubbornly refusing to accept any forms of uplift/mechanised transport.
