About Robin

Rob Jarvis is a full IFMGA Guide and British Mountaineering Instructor (MIC). He is a director of the friendly and highly professional Mountaineering company ‘High Mountain Guides' who provide high quality guided mountaineering, skiing & training courses and private guiding in the following areas: Alpine Mountaineering in the Chamonix Valley & throughout the Alps Ski Touring & Off Piste Skiing in the Chamonix - Mont Blanc Range Rock climbing in Chamonix & throughout the Alps Alpine - Matterhorn & expedition training & preparation High Mountain Guides courses are run in a professional manner but retain a flexible, fun and adventurous approach. The emphasis is on training simple, practical principles and a maximum amount of time enjoying the activity and consolidating skills. Rob has a traditional mountaineering background with the major influence being thirteen full winter seasons mountaineering, climbing and guiding in the Scottish Highlands. This includes hundreds of routes throughout the Highlands but particularly on Ben Nevis with ascents of winter climbs up to VII,8. Rob has climbed extensively throughout the French, Swiss and Italian Alps including over 75 Alpine routes such as the North Face of The Eiger, Les Drus, Droites, Italian Face of Mont Blanc (Eckpfeiler), Grande Jorasses, Aiguille Sans Nom, The 'Supercouloir', etc He is as enthusiastic about British Rock Climbing now as when he started in the early 90’s and has climbed extensively from Cornwall to the Cairngorms, Pembroke to Pabbay (Hebrides) and Yorkshire Grit to Welsh Slate. His favourite venues however are on the mountains and sea cliffs of North Wales where he has made ascents up to E5 6b. Rob has climbed and guided on 6 out of the 7 continents including making first ascents on Welsh rock, Scottish ice and new routes in the Antarctic winter, Kyrgyz Tien Shan and Pakistani Hindu Kush. He has climbed and ski toured extensively in the European Alps and led expeditions to the ‘Greater Ranges’ on peaks up to 7500m (Chinese Pamir, Nepalese & Indian Himalaya, Argentinean Andes, Pakistani Karakorum, Moroccan High Atlas & Antarctic Ellsworths and Peninsula). He had recently just returned from guiding a 'Ski South Pole' expedition. Rob has worked for all the major providers of mountain training and guiding in the UK. He delivers the annual ‘Winter Essentials’ lecture series for the British Mountaineering Council and is a regular contributor to the BMC ‘Summit’ magazine.
