The BMG played a major role in the Arc’teryx Alpine Academy in mid June with over 20 British guides working alongside international colleagues at this prestigious event.
The Alpine Academy is a 4 day event laid on by Arc’teryx in Chamonix. This year the BMG was the biggest single supplier of guides to the event, which shows the confidence the organisers have in us. It’s a pleasure to work with Chamonix Experience, the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix and guides brought in by Arc’teryx from all over the world to share their experiences over the weekend.
There are over 20 different events running during the 4 days, from a clean up between Montenvers and Plan de l’Aiguille on the Thursday, overnight bivouacs, trad climbing sessions, big wall technique and steep skiing.
As an Academy, the emphasis of the weekend is on training and sharing of experience among the students. That really plays to the strength of the BMG with our background in training. For a classic illustration of this, look no further than the Instagram post from one student:
Great trad #climbing skills session from Owain Jones @Brit_Mt_Guides with @thoshunt at #arcteryxalpineacademy. The most informative clinic I’ve been to and not a single foot on rock or ice for once! Thanks @arcteryx! #chamonix
Thanks again to everyone who was there: guides, organisers, film crews and photographers and of course the students.
