The British Mountain Guides had its usual major presence this year at the 5th Arc’teryx Alpine Academy in Chamonix. 20 BMG members worked on a variety of clinics, ranging from Basic Mountaineering Education through Alpine Photography and Advanced Technical Alpinism to High Altitude Medicine.
High quality training was delivered to over 300 participants from all over the world, with the vast majority from France and Switzerland. “With the strong emphasis on coaching within the BMG, we find this event a pleasure to work on”, said Andy Perkins, the BMG’s event coordinator. “In addition it’s a pleasure to work alongside our professional colleagues at the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix and Chamonix Experience.
The Academy is all about sharing knowledge, both from the guides to the participants and also between different professionals with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences.” BMG members also took the opportunity to learn from some of the commercial supporters of the Academy, with a workshop session on the new RAD crevasse rescue system from Petzl.
